|taxes for pace not war|
a register of conscientious objectors to military tax
The register is being used in support of their Taxes for Peace Bill, which is to be tabled this year, during the centenary of the Military Service Act 1916. This Act introduced the first inclusive right of conscientious objection in Britain, it was a milestone moment in the history of individual freedoms.
Conscience are tabling this Bill on the foundation that expensive technological warfare has replaced conscript armies, making us all financial conscripts. We are allowed the right of conscience in wartime, why not in times of peace as well?
In support of Conscience’s Taxes for Peace Bill, and the right to pay for peace rather than war, please register yourself as a conscientious objector. You can do this by filling in a ‘Statement of Conscience’ form, which asks you to detail why you object to paying for war on the basis of conscience.
Your testimony will be part of a collection of statements to be delivered along with our Bill, demonstrating that after 100 years of conscientious objection in this country, the right to freedom of conscience, and absolute exemption from war has not yet been won.
Please register your objection to paying for war by here
