Violent conflicts and wars are endorsed by social and political acceptance. Children learn it very young. Most are taught that it’s wrong to harm and kill; yet almost from birth they receive the opposite message. Whether fromchild and peac e violence-condoning toys, games and films, or from adult society’s aggressive behaviour, attitudes and policies, the implication – that violence can be acceptable – is there. Because it’s apparently unquestioned, we can grow up thinking that violence is ‘all right’.
