SKIPTON WAR MEMORIAL

This, one of two war memorials in Skipton, has the figure of Victory on top of the obelisk and a naked figure of Humanity breaking a sword at the bottom.

It was erected in the early 1920s and renovated on the 30th anniversary of the war. Its sword-breaking message appears to holds little interest; most ‘detail’ photographs of the memorial feature the laurel-waving Victory.
