From Reynolds Illustrated News 11 November 1934, shows workers in an
armaments factory pausing for two minutes silence.
Similar views were expressed by others as in this poem in the New Statesman in 1932.

The buzzer sounds, and, at our benches, we
Stopping the lathes, two minutes silently
Mourn for the lads who fell: then turn again
To making arms for killing other men.
