WATERLOO STATION

< back

Named after the battle of Waterloo, which the British ‘won’ with considerable help from the Germans. Waterloo was also the station through which hundreds of thousands of soldiers returned to the European mainland on their way to the battlefront in World War One. Some came back but many were never to return.

The front of the station was rebuilt to commemorate the war. Today few notice the vast symbolic statues and, if they do, probably have little idea what they are about.
