Fifteen years on from the signing of the "Lancaster House Treaties" in November 2010, Keir Starmer and Emmanuel Macron have reaffirmed their commitment to the joint development of the two countries 'nuclear arsenals and a vision of security based on the illusion of nuclear deterrence'. In this conference, speakers from France and the UK will consider alternative visions of security and the need for nuclear disarmament.
Conference full address: Community Hall, St Anne’s Church, 55 Dean Street, London W1D 6AF (near Piccadilly).
The conference will be followed by the walk, from the French Embassy to Downing Street via Lancaster House: Lancaster House was the location of the signing of two treaties between Britain and France on 2nd November 2010, by which the two countries committed to increased military cooperation of a general nature (for one of the treaties), and to joint research on nuclear weapons (for the other). The Conference and Walk (and incidentally related events in Scotland and France) commemorate that anniversary, and denounce those treaties.
The six conference speakers are a mix of clerics and lay people from a wide range of backgrounds. All are highly qualified to speak on the subjects of the conference, which are nuclear disarmament, and an alternative vision of security for Europe.
