Celebrating International Conscientious Objectors' Day - Online

Leicester CND and other peace groups are holding an online event to mark CO Day, with a range of speakers focusing on the struggles of conscientious objectors in Russia, Ukraine, Israel and elsewhere.

Conscientious objection is a way of life as well as a stand. With speakers including:

  • George Fox, founder of the Quakers was born 15 miles from Leicester, 400 years ago this year.
  • Historian Stuart Masters will speak on Quaker COs from George Fox to Tom Fox.
  • Mixeill Elizbarasvili will speak about his work with Russian and Ukrainian COs in Georgia. (Did you know there are 100,000 Russian COs sheltering in Georgia?)
  • Charlotte Marshall, director of Sabeel-Kairos, will speak on how she a conscientious objector to all that is happening in Gaza and on the West Bank.
  • Richard Johnson, chair of Leicester CND, will speak on his conscientious objection to nuclear weapons.
