The event offers an opportunity to remember the victims of war, challenge the glorification of war and promote peace.
WILPF was founded during the First World War to oppose war and address the causes of armed conflict. It continues to campaign for peace, human rights, climate justice and disarmament.
The afternoon will begin at the Friends Meeting House with poetry readings and light refreshments. Participants are welcome to bring poems relating to peace and opposition to war, either to read themselves or to have read on their behalf. Those who prefer to listen are equally welcome.
Following the readings, participants will walk to the War Memorial at Old Steine for a short peace vigil and the laying of a white poppy wreath.
