White Poppy Remembrance Ceremony – Bury St Edmunds

Join Bury St Edmunds Quakers for a white poppy wreath-laying and 20 minutes of silent remembrance at the War Memorial on Angel Hill on Sunday 8 November at 2.30pm.

The annual ceremony offers an opportunity to remember the grief, suffering and sacrifice of all those affected by armed conflict, including military personnel and civilians of all nations.

Much of today's remembrance tradition was established following the First World War. While the suffering and loss caused by war remain, the nature of armed conflict has changed, making it important to remember victims of wars across the world today.

When the white poppy was adopted by the Co-operative Women's Guild in the years following the First World War, it carried the words 'Never Again' at its centre. The ceremony invites participants to reflect on this message and renew their commitment to peace.
