The Movement for the Abolition of War (MAW) warmly invites all to the 2025 Remembrance Lecture, 'Ending Wars', featuring Lord John Alderdice, Founding Director of the Centre for the Resolution of Intractable Conflict in Oxford.
Lord Alderdice will explore whether, in the face of current worldwide crises of war and climate catastrophe, new ways can be found to address humanity’s deepest differences.

Lord Alderdice is Senior Research Fellow and Director of the Centre for the Resolution of Intractable Conflict. A psychiatrist by profession, he played a significant role in the negotiation of the 1998 Good Friday Agreement as Leader of the Alliance Party of Northern Ireland. He later became the first Speaker of the new Northern Ireland Assembly and a key figure in the normalization of security after the conflict.
He has since held numerous international roles, including President (and now Honorary President) of Liberal International, the global network of more than 100 liberal political parties. His work has been recognised with many honorary doctorates, fellowships, and prizes.
