Wear a white poppy, remember all victims of war

Statement by the Peace Pledge Union

Civilian casualties in war are rising at a terrible rate. The number of civilian deaths worldwide jumped by 40% in 2024, and has been increasing for several years.

With women, children, aid workers and journalists being targeted in unprecedented numbers, it has never been more obvious that civilians bear the brunt of war.

On Remembrance Sunday this year, we will be putting their voices and testimonies at the heart of our commemorations.

By wearing a white poppy, we remember all victims of war, both civilian and military. We remember those who are so often overlooked - buried under the rubble, suffering from starvation or displaced from their homes.

As the UK and other governments pour billions into military budgets and new weaponry, we must remember the loss and suffering that war causes and stand up for nonviolent solutions to conflict.

In the run up to Remembrance Day, white poppies are being distributed at demonstrations, vigils and stalls, and in a growing number of shops and schools.

Please wear a white poppy in memory of everyone affected by war and to show your commitment to peace.

You can buy white poppies through our online shop. You can also find them in many shops, cafes and other outlets across the UK.

If you would like to support the white poppy campaign, there are many ways to help, from distributing white poppies in your community, work place, shop, school or faith group, to attending one of the many remembrance ceremonies featuring white poppies around the UK each year.
